hcr's International trainers: have completed training of trainers courses and hcr's own training of trainers wprkshops for delivering hcr materials. Australian-based trainers have Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training as required under the Australian government training framework.

Our professional and occupational expertise: our associates' qualifications and expertise include bachelors, masters and PhD degrees in media, health promotion, electrical engineering, research, journalism, community radio broadcasting, sound engineering and cross-cultural education. Together we have lived and worked in nearly every Asian nation as practitioners, training facilitators, project managers and consultants.

Education

hcr trainers, associates and consultants are involved with projects in the technical and tertiary education sectors.

  • Bali Work Placement: For final year undergraduate or master's level university students from Australia and Indonesia with course-related work experience or workplace requirements .... an opportunity to gain international work experience in a practical project in Bali, Indonesia with Heartline Bali FM in a rural village .... Live and work for three weeks in the community .... more information here.
  • Master's Researchhcr has managed and supervised master's students conducting research and project work on components of hcr activities in asia. Limited and specialised opportunities apply. some universities will likely have security concerns which would restrict student travel to several field locations where we operate. Contact us to discuss the possibilities. A master's research project is currently being conducted by a student from Sultan Kudarat State University.
  • Certificate in Broadcasting (Radio): under the Australian government's national training framework for vocational education and training. Note: hcr is not an RTO but has agreements with RTOs to deliver the broadcasting (radio) training package
  • Curriculum design and delivery: design of graduate courses and units related to health communication, training methodology and radio programming
  • Sessional lecturing and mentoring to undergraduate and graduate students from journalism and allied health disciplines in subjects related to community development and transformation, behaviour change communication, health communication and the media, training methodology and community radio strategies

 

Training

Workplace training is directly related to hcr's mission and vision. We prefer to equip people with onsite training delivery, whether that is in their workplace, their local radio station or community.

All our training is structured according to the Transitional Learning Model and features:

"so you have something to say?" (Media skills)

Likely participants: managers, administrators, educators, counsellors, project officers or practitioners in service provider agencies (eg, health, government, counselling, advisory, caring professions, NGOs and community organisations etc)

Takeaways: a Community Service Announcement, a media release, an interview briefing sheet relevant to the specific message you have for your clients

Core Topics: The radio sector and media law, write a Community Service Announcement for radio, write a media release, microphone management, prepare to be interviewed, be in control of your answers

Mode: workshop; delivered onsite by arrangement; customised to your service delivery and needs; rolled out or scheduled at your pace. We usually start with a one-day workshop with each participant writing and recording a CSA, then develop the training according to your needs

Community-centred Radio for Development and Transformation

Participants: Radio management and programming-related workers, service providers (eg, health, government, counselling, advisory, caring professions, NGOs and community organisations etc)

Takeaways: Program schedule for a year, CSA's, recorded interviews, program playlists

Core Topics: Plan a radio communication strategy, radio and behaviour change communication, write for radio (CSA's), read for radio, conduct an interview, microphone management, use a portable recorder, plan a regular radio program, manage studio equipment, digital editing and managing audio files, media law, occupational health and safety etc

Mode: workshop; delivered onsite; usually 5-6 days; topic customised to your service delivery and needs

Rapid Response Radio: Disasters

Likely participants: project managers and field workers in disaster response agencies, radio broadcasters and programmers Takeaways: Strategic communication plan, tools and capacity to maintain a "radio in a suitcase" studio and deliver a communication service in a disaster zone Mode: intensive workshopping then a highly intensive onsite simulation over several days
