HIV and me radio workshop

The purpose of the HIV and Me Radio Workshop is to provide young people with the skills to tell other young people about the risks they face of HIV transmission.

There are three main areas covered in the 5-day workshop:

  1. Introduction of HIV and AIDS and the risk of HIV transmission facing young people around the world.
  2. Introduction of radio techniques and the potential for radio to distribute HIV prevention messages made by young people for young people.
  3. Recording and producing HIV prevention radio messages.

The HIV and Me Radio Workshop training package is available free of charge to non-profit health and social development organisations for campaign or project-specific purposes.

The HIV and Me Radio Workshop focuses on the ability of young people to act as educators. All workshop participants are encouraged to promote the adoption of safe sexual behaviours to prevent or stop the spread of HIV. The HIV and Me Radio Workshop teaches youth about radio and encourages participants to create short radio programmes that offer HIV prevention information to their peers. The HIV and Me Workshop recognises the strength of peer education as an educational tool.

Who should attend the workshop?

Any young person who is interested in teaching their friends and classmates about HIV prevention! All participants must be able to read, write and hear audio sounds. Participants must also be able to attend all of the five training days.

Who can facilitate the workshop?

The training package for the HIV and Me Radio Workshop was designed to ensure that any person, regardless of knowledge or experience in radio, HIV/AIDS or peer education, can successfully facilitate the workshop. Particular care has been taken during the design process to supply all needed information.

The HIV and Me Radio Workshop package was designed and pre-tested by Anna Greer.
