Search here for answers to our most frequently asked questions. Frank, our webmaster, wanted you to first make a donation to his retirement fund before you get any answers but we reminded him he is not employed by us and he looks after our site voluntarily. Got any more questions? Use our contact link to submit your own FAQ.
- What Is hcr?
- A collaborative team of international practitioners and researchers .... some of us have research links to universities and publicly funded interventions .... others are employed by their own organisations and implement hcr's concepts, training methodologies and tools in their own context
- Where do you get your funding from?
- Payments from consultancies which are fed back into the overall budget .... donations and grants from individuals, trusts, corporates, churches and other charities ....
- In your list of funding agencies you didn't mention funding bodies such as government aid agencies, or large donors
- Correct .... because hcr has found that such funding is tied to time-bound objectives geared to funding cycles .... but we are committed to the rhythms of community decision-making processes and change for ownership and empowerment .... that commitment locks us into longer-term engagement strategies which are not always compatible with donor-driven funding cycles .... if you are a donor agency, willing to be more flexible with funding cycles -- yet still maintain accountability and compliance -- then we would love to hear from you ....
- We are registered in Australia and our volunteer administration, management and governance people live there .... our compliance responds to Australian regulatory and statutory requirements
- What countries have you worked in?
- Hard to answer that specifically because our training has been delivered in various locations to participants who have worked, or are working, in projects that stretch from Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, East Asia, Europe, USA, Soviet Union and Australia .... we regard as "hcr projects" those being directly assisted by authorised hcr Associates .... Past and present projects: Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia (including the Indonesian province of West Papua), Australian rural and remote areas, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, Iraq, India, Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Philippines (Mindanao) ....
- How big is your team?
- Hard to answer that specifically because of the way we operate as a collaborative organisation ... we have no fulltime paid staff ... our Perth-based associates are self-funded volunteers .... we have about 12 approved Associates or trainers internationally ... our grants to partners in two specific projects (Bali and Mindanao) funds the work of more than 20 local people ....
- What projects are you currently engaged in?
- Our Programs pages lists our programs.... our two primary research sites are Heartline Bali FM and Radyo Gandingan Mindanao (Philippines).... see the community-centered radio page for station-specific activities
- Can we apply to hcr for funds?
- No ... we are not a funding agency ...
- If we can't apply to hcr for funds how then can we get your training or consultancy?
- At the minimum you will need to approach your alternative funding sources for the full costs of the training event and your participants, travel and accommodation for hcr trainers and consultants .... upon application we will discuss fee rates appropriate to your organisation's ability to pay, our priorities and our capacity to respond to your needs at that time ....
